FOUNDERS AWARD 2015:  PAT & COLIN KNIGHT

The twelfth WHS Founders’ Awardees, Pat and Colin Knight, were honored at the 2015 December Holiday dinner.

​

Pat Knight earned a history degree in college but like many plant lovers took a landscape class and graduated at the top of the class. Skills learned were applied to two family gardens over the years, styles including a genuine “English” garden which has evolved to a California/ Mediterranean climate garden with extensive footpaths and trails due to the topography of the property, climate changes and drought. A dedicated kitchen garden has also been a tasty development over the years.

Pat joined WHS in 1986 and has been an active member, serving on the WHS board, chairing the program committee and presenting an expert and well received talk on a topic combining botany and art. Since 2004 Pat has been key in the development of WHS’s online presence through dedicated research, design,and updating of our website. Most recently she brought us into social media via Facebook. When not gardening, Pat is a distinguished expert on porcelain and pottery, active in the community with garden activities and had a successful business in Los Altos, Patrician Antiques. Pat continues this business now as an online store.
 

But wait that is not all! Western Hort also has a silver lining in Pat’s spouse which prompted us to make this a dual award. Colin has been a collaborator in the antique business specializing in 18th century porcelain. Colin had a distinguished career in semiconductor technology from the first germanium transistors through the silicon microchips that power computers. He shared his expertise in digital media with Pat. It was love at first sight as he lost his first computer to her and the business. In Colin WHS has been gifted with expertise in the purchase and management of WHS’s audio-visual equipment.

Both Pat and Colin continue to be active in ceramic circles both in San Francisco and the Peninsula.
