Paul Heiple
Geologist, Representative to Santa Clara County Weed Management Area
presents
Weeds: What Horticulturalists Find in Pandora’s Box
Weeds were an early introduction to California gardens, as anyone working in a garden knows. The problems we face today of the escaped exotic or just plain invasive weed is a topic that Paul will address with an emphasis on Edgewood Park. The task of weeding was one that Paul actually enjoyed, and he continues to weed today as a volunteer and active gardener. In the eastern U.S., where most of the rocks are covered by soil, Paul has found the vegetation growing in an area very useful in mapping the geology underneath it. Paul is a geologist by training, working for Getty Oil Company exploring for oil in the Williston Basin of North Dakota. He is a naturalist with a collection of succulent plants, carnivorous plants, and a hillside of restored native plants.
